Why Hire Someone To Do What You Can Do?

Bride Boot Camp Pull Ups

Recently with budgets and purse strings being a little tighter, I have been getting the question of why would I hire someone to do the things I can do myself.  It’s a good question and there are some great answers.  I think of it like this:  I am a runner and I enjoy running on a regular basis.  That said, I don’t run as hard as I could every time, and it’s easy for me to skip running if something gets in the way.  Sound familiar?  Organizing is no different, or any service for that matter.

When I was engaged and planning my wedding, I hired The Healthy Bride and two days each week, Christie Masi working with me to achieve my wedding day goals.  I went from running three miles to 10, went from 20 push-ups to 72 and from feeling okay to feeling great.  Could I have stayed with my own workout plan, running three miles each day?  Absolutely.  But would I have walked down the aisle feeling like a million bucks?  Probably not.   I hired Christie to keep me on track and ensure I reach my goals.

Hiring an organizer, or any other service person is no different.  Sure, you can do it yourself, but are you and will you be as accountable to the project and your goals?  If you have a goal to get organized and you find yourself, month after month, not able to reach that goal, consider hiring someone for help.  There is an investment, but the benefits far outweigh the cost.   Here are a few benefits:

  • You will have the motivation you need to get started, complete and maintain your project.
  • You will have an expert to help you make the best choices based on what will work for you and how you naturally think.
  • You will have accountability.
  • You will maximize your time with two people; one of whom is there (me) to ensure you achieve your goals.
  • You will get more accomplished.
  • You will learn a process to organize any space.
  • You will learn tools and strategies along the way.
  • You will have more time to spend doing the tasks that really matter, or you enjoy, rather than looking for misplaced information.
  • You will save money from buying what you don’t need, because you can find things in your home or office.

Just today I was working with a client who said, “I would never be doing this on my own if you weren’t here.”  And in less than 3 hours, we organized her business files.  So the next time you are thinking, “Why should I hire someone when I can do this myself?” or if someone is asking or judging you for hiring an organizer, let it go.  That thinking is holding you back from reaching your goal.   Instead of letting those piles go for one more day, which are only getting bigger, hire someone who can actually help you see the light at the end of the tunnel.

My investment with the The Healthy Bride was worth every penny.  I reached my goals, learned how to exercise in a whole new way and have maintained what I learned.  You are only saving money if you actually do what you say you’re going to do; if the piles continue its more money down the drain every day.

[...] Clean your home or office thoroughly: I love a clean house; in fact, this past weekend John and I spent some time cleaning and polishing the floors.  It had been a while and it was important to us to get it done.  Clean your house, light some candles, bring in some fresh flowers – it makes a world of difference.  This also falls into something you can hire someone else to do.  I know that costs money, but if you aren’t going to do it, then hire someone to make sure if gets done.
