Getting The Right Things Done
by ChristaWe recently had a really fantastic A Red Bench teleclass and I was reminded of something very valuable. Our guest expert was Jay Kimball of 8020 Visi
on and what he shared can really make a huge impact on how you spend your time. Did you know that 80% of your results come from 20% of your actions? This is referred to as the 80/20 Rule, or Pareto’s Principle. Likewise, in business, 80% of your sales come from 20% of your clients. High-performance people achieve more with less by constantly apply this principle.
Perhaps we know this, but are we putting it onto action. Probably not. In everything we do in life we have to decide what is most important and how we are going to spend our time. There is no question, people are over-committed and being honest with yourself and admitting you can only do so many things each day is vital. Jay recommended what he calls the ABC, 123 process.
This process doesn’t need to take a lot of time, but select one burning issue and put the issue into a “How to” statement. For example, How to leave the office at 5pm, how to spend more with my husband, how to grow my business by 10% in March? Then make a list of all the things you can do to achieve this goal or burning issue. You might have a list of 20 solutions to the challenge, but you won’t get to all of them. That’s where the ABC, 123 process comes in. A’s are important, B’s, are somewhat important and C’s are not at all important. Then, 1’s are easy, and 3’s are difficult to complete. We tend to fill our time with C1’s when we should be spending our time on A1’s.
I know there are things in my day that are filler; use the ABC, 123 process to prioritize your time and start getting the right things done. Our teleclass will soon be available to purchase. Click here for more info….
